Google Ads Management That Turns Clicks Into Booked Jobs
For home service companies and local businesses that need the phone ringing this week, not next quarter. Search ads, Local Services Ads, and Meta, run as one system.
AM Creative Marketing manages paid advertising for home service companies, health and wellness practices, and local businesses: Google Search Ads, Google Local Services Ads, and Meta ads on Facebook and Instagram. The agency is based in Amesbury, Massachusetts and works with local businesses wherever they are, not only in New England.
Campaigns are built as a full path rather than just ad copy. That means dedicated landing pages matched to each campaign, conversion tracking wired up before launch, negative keyword lists that stop budget leaking, and automated follow-up so a form fill or missed call gets a response in seconds instead of hours. Search ads and Local Services Ads do different jobs, and the mix shifts toward whichever produces cheaper booked work.
On cost: management is billed separately from ad spend, and ad spend goes straight to Google or Meta and is never marked up. Typical ad spend for a local business runs a few hundred to a few thousand dollars a month depending on what a click costs in that trade and how many towns the campaign covers. Current management pricing is on the pricing page. Ads sit on top of a wider program rather than replacing it.
On timing: paid campaigns can produce calls within the first week of launch, which is the main difference from SEO. Cost per lead usually starts high and settles as the platform learns which clicks convert and the negative keyword list fills out. Management is month to month with no long contract, and the ad accounts, conversion tracking, and historical data stay with the business if the relationship ends.
What a modest ad budget actually buys
Three accounts we manage, Facebook and Instagram, over the same 90 days ending September 20, 2026. Reach is how many separate people saw the ads. Cost per click is total spend divided by clicks.
What these numbers are: audience and click cost on Meta over one 90 day window. What they are not: a lead count. Cost per click varies enormously by trade, so a contractor at fourteen cents and a health practice at a dollar ten are not a fair comparison with each other, only with what each was paying before.
Ask any agency showing you numbers which ones tie to booked customers and which ones stop at clicks. On your account we wire conversion tracking before launch precisely so that question has an answer.
Why do most ad campaigns burn budget?
Running ads is easy. Running ads that bring real leads takes more. It takes landing pages built for conversion, instant follow-up when someone reaches out, and ongoing optimization based on what's actually working.
Most accounts we inherit have the same three problems. Broad match keywords pulling in people looking for jobs or DIY advice. Traffic pointed at a homepage instead of a page about the thing they searched for. And no negative keyword list, so budget leaks all month on searches that were never going to call.
We build campaigns that connect to everything else: your website, your CRM, your follow-up sequences. Every piece working together toward booked jobs.
- Dedicated landing pages matched to each campaign
- Instant follow-up that catches leads while they're hot
- Precise targeting for your service area and ideal customers
- Negative keyword lists that stop wasted spend
- Ongoing optimization based on real performance data
Ads as Part of a Lead System
We don't just run ads. We build the entire lead engine. Your campaigns connect to landing pages, instant follow-up, and nurture sequences that turn clicks into booked jobs.
When someone clicks your ad, what happens next matters more than the ad itself. That's why we build dedicated landing pages for each campaign, with messaging that matches exactly what the person searched for.
When they fill out a form or call, our AI concierge responds in seconds. Not minutes. Not hours. Seconds. Speed to lead is the single biggest lever on close rate, and most businesses lose on it without knowing.
And because your ads tie into the same SEO and local marketing strategy, everything works together. Paid and organic reinforce each other instead of competing.

Search Ads or Local Services Ads?
They sit in different places on the page, they bill differently, and they win different jobs. Most businesses should run both.
What are Google Local Services Ads?
Local Services Ads sit above everything else on Google, above the map pack and above the search ads, and carry a Google Guaranteed or Google Screened badge. You pay per lead rather than per click, so a click that goes nowhere costs you nothing.
They win urgent work. Someone with no heat at 9pm or water on the floor is not comparing websites. They tap the first number with a green check next to it.
Google ranks them on a specific set of things:
- Review count and rating from your Google Business Profile
- How fast you answer, and whether you answer at all
- Proximity to the person searching
- License and background check verification staying current
- How many leads you dispute, and whether Google agrees
That last one catches people out. Bad leads can and should be disputed, but accounts get flagged when the dispute rate runs high. We handle the disputes and keep answer rate high enough to hold position.
When do Google Search Ads work better?
When you need control over the message. Local Services Ads show your name, rating, and phone number, and that is the whole ad. Search ads let you sell something specific.
That makes them right for a seasonal promotion, a financing offer, or going after high-ticket work where one job pays for a lot of clicks. They also handle everything Local Services Ads do not cover, since LSA is limited to certain service categories and not every business qualifies.
Search ads are also where retargeting lives, catching the person who priced a job last week and went quiet.
The trap is bidding on broad repair terms against companies with deeper pockets. We keep search budget pointed at work with margin in it, and use negative keywords aggressively so you stop paying for searches that were never going to convert.
Tailored Advertising Strategies for Home Service Pros
The mechanics are the same everywhere. What changes is the cost of a click, the seasons that matter, and how fast someone needs an answer.
HVAC and plumbing
Emergency demand spikes with the weather, and the winner is usually whoever picks up first. Local Services Ads carry most of the urgent work here, with search ads held back for installs and system replacements where the margin is.
Construction and remodeling
Long decision cycles and big ticket sizes. One kitchen pays for a lot of clicks, so the work is filtering out browsers early and staying in front of the people still deciding three months later.
Local and professional services
Health and wellness practices, retail, and service businesses outside the trades. Clicks cost less than home services, and the lever is usually the landing page rather than the bid.

Paid advertising questions, answered
How much should a small business spend on Google Ads?
Most local businesses land somewhere between $500 and $3,000 a month in ad spend, and the number is driven by what a click costs in your trade and how big an area you want to cover.
Clicks in home services run expensive, often $25 to $45 for high-intent local searches, so a budget that is too thin gets spread across too many keywords and never gathers enough data to optimize. It is better to dominate one service in three towns than to be barely present across twelve.
Management is billed separately from ad spend. Your spend goes directly to Google or Meta and we never mark it up. Current management pricing is on our pricing page.
If you run a plumbing, electrical, cleaning, landscaping or pest control business, home services marketing covers how ad spend fits alongside local search and follow-up.
How long before Google Ads starts producing leads?
Days, not months. Campaigns can produce calls within the first week of launch, which is the main reason to run ads alongside SEO rather than waiting on organic alone.
Cost per lead usually starts high and comes down. The first few weeks are the algorithm learning which clicks convert, and us building out the negative keyword list from real search terms. Expect the numbers at day 60 to look meaningfully better than day 7.
What is the difference between Google Search Ads and Local Services Ads?
Billing and placement. Search ads charge per click regardless of whether anyone contacts you. Local Services Ads charge per lead, sit above the search ads and the map pack, and carry the Google Guaranteed badge.
Local Services Ads generally win urgent, high-intent work because of that placement and badge. Search ads win when you need to say something specific, when you are promoting an offer, or when your service is not one of the categories Local Services Ads covers. Running both and shifting budget toward whichever produces cheaper booked jobs beats committing to one.
I tried Google Ads before and it did not work. Why would this be different?
Fair question, and it is the most common thing we hear. When we audit an account that failed, the cause is almost always one of four things:
- Broad match keywords bringing in people looking for jobs, DIY advice, or services you don't offer
- Traffic sent to a homepage instead of a page about the thing they searched for
- No negative keyword list, so the same wasted searches drain budget every month
- No conversion tracking, meaning nobody could tell which half of the spend was working
None of those are the fault of the platform. Send us your account and we will tell you which of the four it was, whether or not you hire us.
Do I own my ad account?
Yes. The Google Ads account, the Meta account, the conversion tracking, and the historical data are yours. If you leave, they stay with you.
Worth asking any agency this directly. Some run clients inside their own account, which means the performance history you paid to build walks out the door when the relationship ends, and the next agency starts from zero.
Do you mark up my ad spend?
No. Your ad spend is billed by Google and Meta directly to your card. We charge a management fee and that is the only money that comes to us.
This matters more than it sounds. When an agency takes a percentage of spend, they make more money when you spend more, whether or not spending more is the right call. A flat fee keeps that conversation honest.
Should I run ads or invest in SEO?
Both, in a mix that changes over time. Ads produce leads immediately but stop the day you stop paying. SEO takes three to six months to carry weight but keeps producing when you pull ad spend back.
The practical answer for most businesses is ads first for cash flow, SEO running underneath, then dialing ad spend down in the busy months once organic is holding. They also feed each other: search term data from ads tells us exactly which keywords are worth building content around.
Do you work with businesses outside Massachusetts?
Yes. We are in Amesbury, Massachusetts, and we manage campaigns for businesses across the country.
Ad management runs the same regardless of where you are. The platforms, the targeting, and the reporting are identical. What changes is local knowledge, so early on we spend time learning your service area, your competitors, and your seasonality rather than assuming it matches New England.
What is a good cost per lead for a contractor?
There is no single number, and be wary of anyone who gives you one without asking what you sell. A cost per lead is only good or bad relative to what a customer is worth to you.
The math that matters is your own. Take your average job value, multiply by the share of leads you actually close, and that is what one lead is worth to the business. A $95 lead is expensive for a $250 service call and cheap for a $40,000 remodel. A roofer closing one in four at $14,000 a job can afford far more per lead than a drain cleaning company closing one in two at $300.
So the first thing we establish on a new account is those two numbers. Without them, cost per lead is a figure with nothing to compare it against, which is how businesses end up cutting the campaigns that were making them money.
Do you require a long-term contract for ad management?
No. Ad management runs month to month with no annual lock-in, and everything built along the way stays with you: the ad accounts, the landing pages, the conversion tracking, and the data.
One honest caveat. No contract does not mean judge it in thirty days. The first few weeks are the platform learning which clicks convert and us building the negative keyword list out of real search terms, so the earliest numbers are the worst ones you will see. Give it a run of a few months before deciding, even though nothing obliges you to.
