Social Media for Contractors

The work is the marketing. We make sure it gets seen.

Your job sites, your crew, your finished projects - that's the content homeowners stop scrolling for. We build a social media engine around what you're already doing on the job, so every completed project feeds your reputation, your referrals, and your next booked call.

The Invisible Contractor

Every job site is a marketing asset. Most contractors let them disappear without a single photo, video, or post.

The costliest mistake in contractor social media marketing is walking away from a finished project with nothing captured. One bathroom remodel, one roof replacement, one addition complete - and not a single before-and-after to show the next homeowner who's already shopping. We fix that for contractors on the North Shore and nationwide. See how organic social fits into our full construction marketing approach.

Why It Works

Does social media actually bring contractors jobs?

Yes - when the content is real. Stock photos get scrolled past. Generic captions get ignored. Real photos and short videos from your job site, shot on a phone while the work is fresh, are what homeowners actually stop to look at. That's the content that turns a follower into a phone call.

What should contractors post on social media?

The posts that perform best are also the easiest to capture: job site progress shots, before-and-after reveals, crew at work, detail close-ups of quality materials, and the finished product. Homeowners stop on the carpenter wearing safety glasses, the crew framing a wall, the handshake at the reveal. That content beats any staged photo you could buy - and you have new material every single workday.

Social media as a referral engine

A clean job site, a uniformed crew, a tidy truck on video - that builds pre-sale confidence faster than any sales pitch. Past clients who follow you share your posts. Neighbors who see the project in real life look you up. Social content creates a loop where visibility feeds referrals and referrals feed more five-star reviews. See how this pairs with our contractor reviews program.

The algorithm advantage

Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok all prioritize original short video over static images and stock content. A 15-second Reel of a roof tear-off or a kitchen reveal gets more reach than a polished graphic with a stock photo - and costs nothing to capture beyond the time it takes to hit record.

How We Work With Contractors

How do we create content when you can't always be on site?

Most agencies only work with clients they can drive to. We built our process around two paths so the same quality of content gets produced whether your jobs are in Newburyport, MA or Nashville, TN.

Path 1 Contractor capturing social media video in kitchen design showroom with client.

Local contractor? We show up to your job site.

For contractors on the North Shore of MA, Southern NH, and the Boston metro, we handle on-site shoots ourselves. We bring the shot list, and we know what angles and moments will actually perform on Instagram, Facebook, and Google. You keep building - we handle the capture.

  • On-site visits at key project milestones
  • Phone-shot video and photo that performs better than studio work
  • Crew, owner, and project coverage in one visit
  • Edited, scheduled, and posted across your platforms

Out of area? We build the shot list, they shoot, and we run the social.

Contractors outside our area get the same content quality without the travel overhead. We help you find and vet a local photographer or videographer in your market, hand them a project-specific shot list, and turn what they deliver into a months-long social calendar. Same result, different setup.

  • Photographer and videographer vetting - we review portfolios and rates with you
  • Custom shot lists built around your specific project type and platforms
  • Direct delivery handoff so the content lands with us, ready to edit
  • Editing, scheduling, and posting handled the same as our local clients

Capturing the Craft

What content should a contractor actually post? Here's the playbook.

Whether your team captures it or our crew shows up on-site, the formula is consistent. Get the moments that prove the quality of the work, skip the posed stuff, and always shoot the before. Good contractor social media content starts with a few repeatable types.

01 Before and after kitchen remodel showcasing cabinet and tile updates for contractor marketing.

Before-and-after photos: the highest-performing format for remodelers and builders

Lighting and angles do most of the heavy lifting here. Get the "before" shot on day one before any demo starts. Shoot again when the site is clean at the end - natural daylight, get low for impact, frame the work with intention. The same countertop installation looks completely different from knee height versus eye level.

The before-and-after sequence is the most saved and shared format on every contractor account we manage. Without that starting point, you only have half the story. On Instagram, a carousel of before-during-after is a proven format for remodeling companies, HVAC installs, and roofing replacements alike. Check out what results look like in our construction marketing results.

Short-form video: Reels, Shorts, and what to capture while you're on the clock

The top-performing video formats for construction and remodeling are progress clips, time-lapses, and the finished reveal. None require a film crew. A phone, a steady hand, and 10 to 30 seconds of footage at the right moment is all it takes. Post it vertical for Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, or YouTube Shorts. Horizontal cuts work for YouTube longform and Facebook feed.

On larger projects - additions, new builds, commercial work - a single drone pass at framing and again at completion gives you scope footage no competitor can match. We brief every shooter we work with to capture the elevated view at minimum twice per project. TikTok and YouTube Shorts respond especially well to the aerial-to-ground reveal edit.

1/5 The Repurpose Rule

One job site shoot, five pieces of content.

One on-site visit becomes an Instagram Reel, a Facebook before-and-after carousel, a Google Business Profile photo update, a project in your website portfolio, and creative for paid ads if you run them. One captured moment, five placements across platforms. That's how a busy contractor stays consistent without spending hours on content every week.

Platform Strategy

Which social platforms matter most for contractors?

Not every platform is worth your time. For most home service contractors - roofers, remodelers, HVAC companies, builders - Facebook and Instagram do the most consistent work. YouTube builds authority. TikTok is worth it when you can shoot video regularly. Here's how we think about each one.

Facebook & Instagram

Facebook and Instagram together cover the biggest homeowner audience for local contractors. Facebook is where you engage in local homeowner groups, town pages, and neighborhood feeds - that's your referral network. Instagram is where your portfolio lives. Reels on both platforms push your content to people who don't follow you yet. Carousels and before-and-afters get the most saves, which signals the algorithm to show your content more widely.

Reels Carousels Local groups Stories

YouTube

YouTube rewards longer-form content and ranks in Google search - two things Facebook and Instagram don't do. A 3-5 minute walkthrough of a finished addition, a "why we chose this roofing material" explainer, or a project tour for a custom kitchen gives homeowners the depth they want before calling. YouTube Shorts (under 60 seconds) get additional reach. For contractors with video content already captured, YouTube is an underused channel that compounds over time.

Google Business Profile

Your Google Business Profile is technically not "social media" but it behaves like it. Regular photo uploads and GBP posts signal freshness to Google's local algorithm. Contractors who post weekly to GBP alongside their Instagram and Facebook activity show up more consistently in the Maps pack for searches like "roofer near me" or "kitchen remodeler [city]." Pair this with our local SEO work for contractors and the two channels compound each other.

Turning Views Into Leads

How do you turn social media followers into booked jobs?

Posting consistently builds the trust layer. Getting those posts in front of the right homeowners - and making sure your profile actually converts them - is where the revenue comes from. Here's how we close that gap.

Boosting posts and paid social targeting

Organic reach only goes so far. Boosting your strongest posts - a before-and-after Reel, a finished project reveal - puts that content in front of homeowners in specific zip codes, age brackets, and home value ranges. Paid social on Facebook and Instagram works best once you know which organic posts already connect. Pair this with our Google Ads program for contractors for full-funnel coverage.

Reviews and social proof in your content mix

Project photos paired with a customer testimonial outperform either one alone. A five-star quote overlaid on the finished project photo, a short video of the homeowner talking about the experience, a screenshot of a Google review posted alongside the job photos - these posts convert browsers into callers. See how we build this into a systematic process in our contractor reviews program, then look at what happens when leads come in through our contractor lead generation system.

Contractors who got tired of marketing that didn't work

"AM Creative Marketing has done a phenomenal job on my website and SEO work. They are extremely easy to work with and have been attentive and professional. I previously was working with a larger company who promised the world with no results. Jon and AM Creative Marketing have done the exact opposite. My website and leads have far exceeded my expectations and we have only just begun."

Dave C. Google Review

"AM Creative set up automated texts and project updates that freed our designers from manual work. In just three months their SEO work helped us get more organic traffic. Their team also creates content, makes clips and runs our socials, which drives more locals to our showroom. No long contracts, always a quick reply. If you're a home-service business tired of juggling marketing vendors, stop and call Jon's crew."

Frank L. Google Review

"Jon and his team are fantastic. I had my site destroyed by another so-called marketing team and went from 800 views per month down to zero. Jon turned our site around in a matter of days and started getting us quotes again. He's also helped multiple friends of ours - our site is booming as well as all our friends that use him. Highly recommend Jon and his team."

Common Questions

Contractor social media questions - answered directly

How often should a contractor post on social media?

For most contractors, three to five posts a week across Facebook and Instagram is the practical target - enough to stay top of mind without requiring constant attention. At minimum, post at least once a week to each active platform. Add a Reel or short-form video at least once a week, and update your Google Business Profile with fresh photos every week or two.

The number matters less than showing up consistently over time. Sporadic bursts followed by silence hurt more than a modest steady pace. We plan content around project milestones - one good job site shoot can produce two to three weeks of posts if the shot list is right. The goal is always to look busy and in-demand, not to go viral.

Do I need a professional camera for my job sites?

No. A current iPhone or Android phone is the better tool for most social content - faster to shoot, easier to share directly, and the algorithms on Instagram and TikTok are tuned to favor footage that looks like it came from a phone. Highly produced, polished video often performs worse than raw job site footage shot vertically on a Samsung or iPhone.

What matters is light, stability, and knowing what to capture. Natural daylight outside beats indoor lighting almost every time. A simple tripod or a crew member holding steady is enough. Our shot lists tell your team exactly which moments to get so you're not improvising on a busy job site.

What if I'm not in your local service area?

That's the second path we built specifically for this situation. We help you find and vet a local photographer or videographer in your market - reviewing portfolios and rates with you - then hand them a project-specific shot list built around your trade, your project type, and which platforms we're targeting. The raw files come to us and we handle editing, captions, scheduling, and posting from there.

Contractors in Texas, Florida, and other markets run the same content engine this way with the same results as our local clients. The only difference is who holds the camera on-site. We've worked this model successfully with roofing companies, remodelers, and HVAC businesses nationwide.

How does social media impact my local SEO?

Social posts don't move Google rankings directly - Google doesn't use Facebook or Instagram as ranking signals. What social does is drive behavior that does matter for local SEO: more branded searches (people Googling your company name after seeing your posts), more traffic to your website, and more visits to your Google Business Profile. Regular photo uploads to GBP do feed local ranking signals directly.

Running social alongside local SEO for contractors creates a compounding effect - social builds brand awareness, SEO captures the searches that brand awareness generates. Most of our clients see this play out in 90 to 120 days.

What happens after the photographer delivers the content?

The raw files come straight to us via a shared folder or direct transfer. We sort and select the strongest shots, edit the video clips, cut Reels and short-form content to platform specs, write the captions (with location tags and relevant hashtags), schedule posts across your active platforms, and queue the Google Business Profile photo updates. You review the full content calendar before anything goes live.

One project shoot typically generates content spread across two to four weeks of posts. Once a project is captured, your involvement is one approval pass and done. No chasing content, no writing captions, no logging into schedulers.

Do you handle the social ads or just organic posts?

Both, but in that order. Organic posts build the trust foundation and tell us which content actually resonates with your audience. Once we see which posts perform, we put budget behind those specific pieces to push them to homeowners in your target zip codes. Boosting a post that already has organic engagement almost always outperforms a boosted post that starts cold.

For contractors doing both social and search, your Google Ads capture homeowners who are actively searching - social builds awareness so more of them search in the first place. The two channels work the full funnel.
