In Short

AM Creative runs local SEO for heating and cooling contractors: the organic search work that puts an HVAC company in the map pack and the results below it when a homeowner nearby searches for furnace repair, AC installation, or a no-heat emergency. It is one track inside our HVAC marketing program, and it runs alongside the HVAC website, the Google Ads and Local Services Ads, the lead follow-up system, and the review system rather than in its own lane.

The work covers four areas search engines weigh together: content built around what homeowners in your towns actually type, authority from reviews and citations and links, technical health like speed and site structure, and the behavior signals real visitors leave behind. Google Business Profile management sits inside it, because for local trades the map pack is usually where the phone rings from. Pages are written as questions with direct answers underneath, which is the format both search engines and AI assistants pull from.

Most HVAC companies see real movement in three to six months, with the towns closest to the shop moving first and the outer edge of the service area last. Nobody can promise a ranking position. Plans run month to month after setup with no long-term contract, and the site, the content, the profiles, and the accounts stay with the client. AM Creative is based in Amesbury, Massachusetts and works with contractors across the country.

HVAC Search

Why Your HVAC Company Isn’t Ranking for Local Searches

Type your business name into Google and you are probably right at the top. Type "furnace repair" plus your town and you may not be on the first three pages. That gap is the whole problem, and it is the most common thing we find when a heating and cooling company calls us.

Homeowners searching for HVAC work are not browsing. Their heat is out on a Tuesday night, or their AC quit during the first real hot stretch of June. They open Google, they call one of the first few businesses they see, and they book. If you are not in that short list, the job goes to the shop that is.

The fix is not a bigger ad budget. It is having a page that answers the exact question being asked, on a site Google trusts, in the town where the search happened. That takes months of steady work rather than a one-time cleanup, which is why we run it as an ongoing program instead of a project. It is the same work behind our local SEO services, pointed at how homeowners search when the heat goes out.

What Goes Wrong

Why do most HVAC websites never rank?

These four patterns show up on nearly every heating and cooling site we audit. None of them are unusual, and all of them are fixable.

1

One page trying to cover every service

Furnace repair, AC install, heat pump conversion, and duct work all crammed onto a single Services page. Google has nothing specific to rank. A homeowner searching for a ductless mini split install lands on a page that mentions it once in a bullet list and leaves.

2

No pages for the towns you actually drive to

You cover fifteen towns and have one page that lists them in the footer. Searches happen town by town. Without a real page for each market you care about, you are competing on brand recognition alone against shops that built one.

3

A Google Business Profile that has not been touched in a year

For local HVAC searches the map pack sits above everything else. An outdated profile with no recent posts, no service list, and unanswered reviews gets passed over for one that is maintained. This is the fastest moving piece of local search and the most often ignored.

4

Treating search like a project with an end date

A contractor pays for six months of SEO, sees rankings start to climb, and stops. Within two quarters the positions slide back. Competitors kept publishing and kept earning links. Search position is held, not won once.

The Framework

What does HVAC SEO actually include?

We work four pillars at once. Pushing hard on one while ignoring the others is why so much SEO spend produces nothing.

1

Content

A dedicated page for every service you want to be found for and every town you want to be found in. Heat pump installation reads differently from emergency no heat calls, and each deserves its own page written for that specific search.

2

Authority

Other sites linking to yours is still what separates page one from page four. We build that through local sponsorships, supplier and manufacturer listings, trade associations, and earned press rather than bought link packages.

3

Technicals

Page speed, mobile layout, crawlability, and clean site structure. Homeowners search for HVAC help on a phone, often in a hurry. A slow page loses the call before it loads.

4

Behavior

What people do once they land. If visitors arrive and leave without calling, Google notices and so does your bank account. We track which pages convert and rewrite the ones that do not.

What's Included

What does the ongoing work look like?

Scope flexes with your budget and your market. This is the shape of it.

Keyword and service area research

We map the searches happening in your towns, split by service and by urgency, then prioritize by volume and how likely each one is to turn into a booked job.

Service and location pages

New pages built for the services and towns worth owning, written to answer the full question rather than repeat a keyword.

Google Business Profile management

Ongoing posts, service and attribute updates, photo uploads, and review responses. This is the single biggest lever in local HVAC search.

Technical audit and fixes

Speed, indexing, broken links, duplicate pages, and site structure. Checked continuously rather than once a year.

Authority building

Local citations, supplier and manufacturer directory listings, and earned mentions in your market.

Seasonal content planning

Heating content shipped before the cold arrives and cooling content before the first hot week, so pages have time to index and rank ahead of demand.

Rank and impression tracking

Position tracking by keyword and by town, alongside impressions, so you can see movement well before it turns into calls.

Quarterly strategy review

We look at what moved, what stalled, and what changes for the next quarter based on the numbers rather than a fixed plan.

Why Us

Why work with us on HVAC search?

We are a small shop in Amesbury, Massachusetts. Here is what that actually means for you.

1

Home services is what we do

Heating and cooling, plumbing, electrical, roofing, remodeling. We are not learning your trade on your budget, and we already know what a good HVAC lead looks like versus a tire kicker.

2

Month to month

No annual contract. If the work stops producing you can leave. That arrangement keeps the pressure where it belongs, which is on us.

3

You own everything

The site, the content, the profiles, the accounts. If we part ways, none of it walks out the door with us.

4

Search connected to the rest

Organic work runs alongside your ads, your site, and your review system instead of in a separate lane where nobody can tell what caused what.

FAQ

Common questions about HVAC SEO

If yours isn't here, ask on the strategy call.

How long does SEO take to work for an HVAC company? +

Expect ranking movement in three to six months and meaningful call volume somewhere between six and twelve. The range is wide because it depends on the shape your site is in now, how many competitors in your area are doing the same work, and how much has to be built from scratch.

Seasonality stretches this further in heating and cooling than in most trades. A furnace repair page published in October is competing for demand that is already peaking. The same page published in July has three months to index and climb before the calls start. We plan the content calendar around that lag rather than around the current month.

We give a specific timeline after auditing your site and looking at what the competition in your towns has built.

Is local SEO different from regular SEO for HVAC? +

Yes, and for heating and cooling the local side matters more. Local SEO targets the map pack, the block of three businesses with a map that sits at the top for searches like "AC repair near me." Regular organic SEO targets the blue links underneath it.

Map pack placement runs on different signals: your Google Business Profile, how consistent your name, address and phone are across the web, your review volume and how recent those reviews are, and how close you are to the person searching. A shop can rank well organically and still be missing from the pack, which is where most of the emergency calls come from.

We work both, with the profile treated as an ongoing job rather than a one-time setup.

Can I rank in towns where I do not have an office? +

You can, but it is harder and it takes longer. Proximity is a real factor in map pack results, so a shop physically in the town will usually have an edge there.

What works is building a genuine page for that market, with the specific services you run there, the jobs you have completed nearby, and answers to questions particular to that area. Housing stock matters here. A page about converting an oil boiler in an older New England home reads very differently from a new construction heat pump page, and homeowners can tell which one was written for them.

What does not work is copying one page fifteen times and swapping the town name. Google has been filtering that out for years.

Should I do SEO or Google Ads first? +

If you need calls this month, ads. If you want to stop paying for every call two years from now, search. Most of our heating and cooling clients run both, with ads carrying the near term while organic builds underneath.

The honest version: if your schedule is thin right now, SEO alone is the wrong answer. It will not fix this quarter. Start ads to stabilize the flow and let organic work in the background so the ad budget can come down later instead of climbing every year.

Do you guarantee first page rankings? +

No. Anyone who does is either guessing or picking search terms so obscure that ranking for them means nothing.

What we will do is show you where you sit today, what the competition in your market has built, and what a realistic path looks like over the next twelve months. Then we report position and impression movement so you can judge whether it is working rather than take our word for it.

What if I already have a website I like? +

We usually keep it. Most sites need better page structure and more pages rather than a rebuild, and starting over throws away whatever history the domain has earned.

A rebuild makes sense when the site is slow enough to lose mobile visitors, built on a platform that fights back every time you add a page, or missing the structure that search needs at a level that patching cannot fix. We tell you which situation you are in after the audit, and we have no reason to push a rebuild you do not need.
